Follow along on our journey to create opportunity in every neighborhood and provide excellent service for every San Diegan. Every day we serve our communities to make San Diego not just a fine city, but a great city.
In our Strategic Plan, we have identified our vision, mission, operating principles, and priority areas of focus for 2022 and beyond. This action-oriented plan outlines the specific outcomes, expected results, and related strategies on which City leaders and employees will work collaboratively to deliver what our community needs. As part of our commitment to transparency, we are providing this online dashboard to keep the public updated on different areas of progress over time.
Outcome - Defines the intended change in the lives of individuals, families, organizations, or communities to be accomplished through the implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Expected Result - Identifies the conditions or change required to achieve each outcome.
Strategy - Determines the action, method, or plan (as outlined in existing City plans, initiatives, and policies) to bring about the future desired state.
We value our residents, customers, and employees by designing solutions and services that put people first.
We value a “Culture of Yes” where we empower employees to creatively solve problems and offer solutions.
We value equity and inclusion by taking intentional action to create equal access to opportunity and resources.
We value transparency by using data to make better-informed decisions, answer questions, and build trust with the public.
Equity is an achievable outcome when disparities are eliminated in systems, and when everyone has access to inclusive City services and resources essential to reaching opportunities and thriving in San Diego.
To do this successfully, we need to honestly and directly address persistent issues connected to neighborhood inequity and systemic racism in the City of San Diego. Creating equitable outcomes requires an intentional approach that includes and empowers our communities experiencing structural exclusion through ensuring disparities are eliminated in systems. We recognize the strength, worth, and promise of each person in San Diego, and will work towards creating a better future…for all of us.
The Strategic Plan is organized into five priority areas of focus. Throughout this site, you can read about the work being done within each of these areas, along with current key performance measures.
Every San Diegan has access to secure, affordable housing.
Communities are connected to safe public spaces that offer opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
San Diegans have transportation infrastructure and options that are efficient, safe, and convenient.
San Diego offers livable, sustainable communities for all, now and in the future.
Economic growth and opportunity happen in every community, for every San Diegan.
